Celebrating the 40th anniversary of Cybernetic Serendipity

What is this all about?

Primarily, this social network was created to celebrate Jasia Reichardt's seminal exhibition which occurred at the ICA in 1968. We intend this network to facilitate future discussion between the members who share an interest in cybernetic art and how design can generate “aesthetically potent environments”.

How this Network can be used

How does this site work? This is a 'Ning' which is a web based social network where you can join as a member, and invite new members. You can start and contribute to discussions using the forum, make announcements and send private messages to the other members of the community. Please also feel free to contribute relevant images, video and blog entries. Further features are available, but to start with, we will keep it simple.

Roy Ascott Exhibition at Plymouth Arts Centre, Devon

Just visited this wonderful show of Ascott's early cybernetics-inspired artworks. Also on view many interesting documents from his internatinal educational career. It ends soon, so if you have a chance to go, I recommend it!

Not Good News Taking Into Account the Sub-title of this Social Network

Following a review of the ICA's programming activities I have taken the decision to close the Live & Media Arts department from the end of November 2008.

The ICA has led a pioneering role in new media arts practice over the last decade and more.

We are proud of that legacy. However times change. And I no longer feel that the artistic rationale for devoting considerable institutional attention to that art form - to the extent of maintaining a dedicated department to its pursuance - can be s… Continue
