Celebrating the 40th anniversary of Cybernetic Serendipity

A Computer in the Art Room: the Origins of British Computer Arts 1950-80

Hi, members might be interested in my new book, published last month, which uncovers the little known history of early British computer art. This is based on research I conducted at Birkbeck, University of London with the CACHe Project (Computer Arts, Contexts, Histories, etc.), funded by the UK’s Arts & Humanities Research Council. The book contains numerous pictures, many never before published. Further information and special launch price at: www.catherinemason.co.uk

Hi Catherine. Thank you. I don't know about copyrights implications, but I wonder if some of "never before published" pictures could be uploded to this Ning...

I'll check with copyright holders and see...watch this space!
In the meantime, here is a still from "The Flexipede", the first British computer- animated film. Made by Tony Pritchett in 1967, it was exhibited at Cybernetic Serendipity in '68.

Stephen Jones has recently completed his PhD on the early days of the electronic arts in Australia. As a major contributor in his video synthesisers and since, he is also a discussant on the Cybernetic Serendipity Redux debate (starting Monday on Yasmin): I hope that he may bring some of that material to this site.
